Music and dance

Together with the Kwaabuette Cultural Centre, we promote music and dance lessons for disadvantaged children and young people in the Osu Klottey district. Kwaabuette (Rainbow) is one of the first drum and dance schools in Ghana and is located in the Osu Klottey lagoon, on the beach of Accra. For over 30 years, Kwaabuette has been a permanent place of refuge for many children and young people from the neighborhood, as well as for musicians and music enthusiasts from all over the world.

The head of the Kwaabuette Cultural Centre is Nii Adjarh Torto, who has been teaching children and young people in Accra and Europe for over 30 years. His music and dance group, the „Kwaabuette Cultural Troupe“, is known beyond the borders of Ghana. In the 1990s, they also performed in Germany and conducted music and dance workshops in schools in Lower Saxony.

Ankwa Roots construction project (2014 to 2019)

When the Kwaabuette Cultural Center stood on the verge of collapse shortly after the extreme rainy season in 2014, Ankwa Roots and Ghanaian artist Ed-Franklin Gavua launched a successful fundraising campaign to save this special institution.

With donations from Germany and many volunteers on site, the octagonal wooden house was carefully dismantled in 2014 and rebuilt on a stable foundation in the same location in 2015. In February 2020, we celebrated the successful completion of construction with many friends and supporters.
