Experience Traditional Music, Dance and Culture
Lessons, workshops and cultural encounters at Kwaabuette in Accra
The Kwaabuette School of African Music and Dance, located in Osu, Accra, welcomes people from Ghana and around the world to discover the rich diversity of traditional Ghanaian music and dance.
Drumming, Rhythms and Dance
From Kpanlogo, Gome, Agbadza, Gahu and Kete to many other traditional rhythms and dances, Kwaabuette offers opportunities for beginners and experienced participants to learn, play and dance together.
Lessons include a variety of traditional instruments such as Kpanlogo drums (similar to congas), Gome, Atsimevu, Sogo, Kidi, Kaganu, bells and rattles. The djembe, widely played across West Africa, is also part of our musical programme.
Depending on the instrument and musical tradition, drums are played with the hands, with sticks or with a combination of both.
Discovering Traditional Culture
Kwaabuette is more than a music and dance school. Visitors can also gain insights into the cultural and spiritual traditions of the Ga people, including customs, festivals, rituals, prayers and the importance of music and dance in community life.
